Core Values and Culture

Bound by core values – fighting for the right to a trial by jury, representing clients ethically, and valuing peer relationships – our organizational culture thrives on professionalism, diversity, and the shared objective of representing everyday people seeking justice.

Trailblazing the Path of Inclusion

HTLA has been a trailblazer in championing diversity since its inception in 1974. Operating as a local chapter of TTLA, our commitment to diversity is a beacon for other TLAs. In 2015, our interactions with Harris County bars propelled us into a period of substantial growth, with membership swelling to 1,140 members today, excluding 70 law students.

Membership is more than a numerical count; it's about cultivating a culture of inclusivity. We place significant emphasis on attracting professionals from diverse backgrounds, ensuring our community reflects the rich tapestry of Houston's legal landscape.

Leading the Way

Our first South Asian female president in the legal community is a testament to our commitment to breaking barriers. HTLA leaders are not just figureheads; they are catalysts for change, inspiring others to strive for diverse representation in leadership roles.

Networking for Diversity

We take a proactive networking approach by hosting diversity events twice a year and drawing bar associations and judges. The HTLA community actively builds relationships, fostering an environment where everyone feels heard and respected.

Investing in the Future

Central to our diversity initiative is the belief in mentorship and community building. The invaluable support and information exchange within our listserv creates a robust mentorship ecosystem. We recognize the importance of guiding the next generation of legal professionals toward a more inclusive future.
